Through our proactive grant program, CFHZ commits energy and resources through targeted investments in three identified issue areas. Community data helped identify these three areas as vital to the ongoing health and success of our community.
Increasing access to and availability of mental health services.
Leveraging out of school time to mitigate the education opportunity gap.
Increasing the consistency of healthy parent or other caring adult relationships in kids’ lives.
The review committee will meet three times annually to consider proposals/projects. Please note the deadlines below to submit applications.

Eligibility for Proactive Grants
Nonprofit organizations that are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, schools, municipalities and other governmental entities that serve a charitable purpose in the greater Holland/Zeeland area.
The Foundation will focus on the following three issue areas through the end of 2025:
- Increasing access and availability of mental health services
- Leveraging out of school time to mitigate the education opportunity gap
- Increasing the consistency of healthy parent or other caring adult relationships in kids’ lives
In considering eligible requests, CFHZ gives priority to proposals that are core to the organization’s mission, will have a lasting impact, will address inequities, and demonstrate organizational capacity to successfully implement the proposed project or program as measured by:
- Financial stability
- Leadership capacity
- Record of successful project/program delivery
