Most students will use our General CFHZ Scholarship Application to apply. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. (EST) on February 1, 2025
Please note: Our employment-related scholarships and a few others have separate applications and/or due dates. Read below for instructions and due dates.
Apply For
General Scholarships
Do not begin the General CFHZ Scholarship Application until your first semester or first trimester grades and updated cumulative grade point average are available.
The application becomes available the first week of December. It is due at 5:00 p.m. on February 1, and must be submitted online. Recommendation forms are due February 14 at 5:00pm. No other electronic or paper submissions will be accepted.
Applying for
Scholarships
- Your cumulative GPA through the first semester or trimester.
- If you attend Black River High School, Hamilton High School, Holland High School, Holland Christian High School, West Ottawa High School, or one of the Zeeland high schools, CFHZ will contact your school’s counseling department for your transcript. If you attend any other high school or are a current college student or adult returning to school, you will need to upload your most recent academic transcript in pdf, doc, or docx format. If you are a college student, your college transcript is required.
- High school seniors only: a list of elective classes in your field of interest and college-level classes you have taken along with the grade you received.
- A list of your extra-curricular school activities over the last four years.
- A list of your community and/or faith-based activities over the last four years.
- A list of the leadership positions you have held over the last four years.
- Your 300 word or less answer to our standard essay question: What are your future goals and how have your high school, college, or personal experiences shaped these goals?
- If applicable, additional essays or short answers. Browse CFHZ Scholarships for the additional essay and short answer prompts.
- The email address (work email address preferred) of a recommender. See Recommendation Process tab for more information.
- The financial aid award letter (if available) from the top school you are considering and any other scholarship award notices.
- Documentation of your estimated Student Aid Index (SAI) amount. Your estimated SAI will be sent to you by the Department of Education in an email after you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may send documentation of your estimated SAI to us in one of two ways: Option 1: Upload a copy of the Department of Education’s email showing the estimated SAI with your scholarship application. Option 2: separately email/forward the Department of Education’s email showing the SAI to stimmerman@cfhz.org.
One recommendation is required with the General CFHZ Scholarship Application. You will be asked to enter the name and email address (work email address preferred) of your recommender. A link to our recommendation form will be emailed directly to them when the you submit the application. Letters of recommendation mailed or emailed to the Foundation will not be accepted. Recommendations are due at 5:00 p.m. on February 14.
Certain students will need a second recommendation. If you fit one of the following descriptions, you should enter the name and email address of a second recommender. If you do not fit one of the following descriptions, a second recommendation is not needed and will not be used during the selection process.
- Creative Artist (visual arts, dance, drama or music). List your high school creative art teacher. Visual artists are encouraged to submit a portfolio containing 5-10 of their best pieces to stimmerman@cfhz.org by the application deadline.
- Swimmer. List your high school or club team swim coach.
- Soccer Player. List your high school or club team soccer coach.
- Golfer. List your high school varsity golf coach.
- Current College Student. List a college instructor in your major.
- Applicant with considerable* work or volunteer experience. List your work or volunteer supervisor. *Applicants who work full-time in the summer and at least ten hours per week during the school year qualify. Applicants who volunteer at least four hours per week year-round qualify.
- Child of an ODL Employee. List a second recommender of your choosing.
- Graduating senior accepted and planning to enroll at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. List a second recommender of your choosing.
- Caledonia High School, Hamilton High School, or Hudsonville High School graduating senior with plans to major in English or a related subject. List a high school English teacher.
- Saugatuck High School graduating senior/industrial arts student. List your high school industrial arts teacher.
- Saugatuck High School graduating senior/visual arts student. List your high school visual arts teacher.
- Saugatuck High School graduating senior with a giving heart. List a high school counselor or teacher.
- West Ottawa High School graduating senior with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.75, especially seniors interested in studying business. List a second recommender of your choosing.
- Zeeland East High School or Zeeland West High School graduating senior planning a degree/certification in a technical field or computer science. List a Careerline Tech Center teacher or other teacher familiar with your technical ability.
- Zeeland East High School or Zeeland West High School graduating senior planning to pursue a degree in Education. List a high school staff member who is not a selection committee member. 2023 selection committee members are: Dawn Collins, Melissa Drnek, Travis Spaman, Jessica Knoth, Lindsay Jacob, Shawn Jacob, and Brandi-Lyn Mendham.
- Immediate family members of scholarship selection committee members are not eligible to receive grants from a Section 4966 scholarship fund. An immediate family member is defined as a parent; sibling; child by blood, adoption, or marriage; spouse; grandparent or grandchild.
- The transcript information you provide regarding your GPA, rank, and classes will be verified with your school. Falsification of information shall result in your disqualification from scholarship consideration.
- CFHZ will contact award winners at the home address or email address provided and announce these winners at area high school award ceremonies.

Winners must complete an acceptance form as specified by CFHZ.
- Scholarships are intended for use starting in the fall semester of the year during which they are announced. Scholarship acceptance may be delayed until December 31 with notification to CFHZ prior to the commencement of the fall semester. Unaccepted scholarships shall be forfeited after the December 31 deadline except as approved by CFHZ. Students participating in early college programs must wait to apply until they are graduating from early college. Students taking a gap year must wait to apply until the year during which they will enter college.

Global Concepts Enterprise, Inc. Founders’ Scholarship – For the children of Global Concepts Enterprise, Inc. employees. Step one applications are due on January 15.
J. Russel and Julia Bouws Scholarship Application – For Russ’ employees or the children or grandchildren of Russ’ employees. Step 1 applications are due on January 15.

Freedom Village Residents’ Scholarship Application – Interested student employees should contact Gwen Bartels at Freedom Village.
Integrated Fabric Resources, Inc. Employee Scholarship Application – For the children of IFR, Inc. employees. Step 1 applications are due on January 31.
Angie Kammeraad Nursing Scholarship Application – Interested hospital employees should contact the human resources office at Holland Hospital or Zeeland Community Hospital.
Karen and Larry Mulder Scholarship Application – For the children of ODL, Inc. employees. Step 1 applications are due on January 15.
Lillian Mulder Dalman Scholarship for Resthaven Employees Application – For Resthaven employees. Applications are due on March 15.
