Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of our Community Foundation, consisting of teens from local high schools, reviews funding requests for programs that benefit area youth.  Recommendations for granting are then made to the Board of Trustees from the Foundation's Endowed Youth Funds.  The mission of the YAC is to empower young people, involve them in the community and teach them about philanthropy while serving as stewards through granting.

The YAC program was established in 1991 through a challenge grant from the Michigan Community Foundation Youth Project (MCFYP) funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Kellogg's intent was to build Community Foundation capacity, establish youth as philanthropists and create permanent endowment funds to meet youth-related needs within each community.
