Exclusive to Holland Christian Students
Community Service Scholarship of the Community Foundation
The Community Service Scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to one male and one female student from each of the following schools: Black River, Holland High School, Holland Christian High School, West Ottawa High School, Zeeland East High School, and Zeeland West High School. Members of the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee support the school selection committees in the nomination process.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extracurricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
Roger and Louise Brinks Holland Christian Schools Scholarship
This scholarship awards a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Holland Christian High School.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
• Financial need is a consideration, but not an absolute requirement
• Acceptance to a two or four year program of an accredited higher educational institution
Martin J. Dykstra Memorial Scholarship
The Martin J. Dykstra Memorial Scholarship Fund awards one $500 scholarship to a Holland Christian High School graduating senior who plans to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program in business at a college or university.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
• Interest in a degree in business
John T. and Esther M. Hoogland Educational Scholarship
The John T. and Esther M. Hoogland Educational Scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Holland Christian High School.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
• Financial need
Marcia K. and Arlyn J. Lanting Family Scholarship
Marcia K. and Arlyn J. Lanting Scholarship Fund awards two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Holland Christian High School who plan to enter a career in Christian service. This service could take many forms and include Christian ministry, Christian youth work or Biblical studies.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Involvement in religious education program
• Enrollment in a degree program involving Christian ministry
• Exceptional character and leadership and a desire to make a difference in our culture
• Financial need a consideration but not a requirement
Dr. J.H. Kamps/Louis Roberts Speech Award
The Kamps/Roberts Speech Award provides a $100 scholarship to a female and a male student from the Zeeland High Schools and from Holland Christian High School.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic scores of 2.5 or higher
• High level of involvement in speech, drama and/or English classes in high school
• A recommendation from the English and/or Communications Department
Shawn D. Wiersma Memorial Scholarship
The Wiersma Memorial Scholarship awards a $750 scholarship to a graduating senior from Holland Christian High School.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic performance as measured by GPA and college entrance exams
• Record of community activities in addition to exceptional performance in church, school and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future, including being a well rounded athlete and possessing a love of outdoors
• Acceptance to a two or four year program of an accredited higher educational institution
• Financial need is a consideration but not a requirement
Ploeg-Fynewever Nursing Scholarship
The Ploeg-Fynewever Nursing Scholarship awards a $300 scholarship to a graduating senior of Holland Christian High School who is interested in pursuing a degree in nursing.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Acceptance in a college, university or accredited hospital nursing program, leading to a career as a registered nurse
• Academic success as measured by grade point average and testing scores
• Financial need
