Exclusive to Holland High School Students

Brooks Family Minority Scholarship Fund

The Brooks Family Minority Scholarship Fund was established to celebrate the diversity of the Holland community.  This scholarship is a renewable scholarship for eight consecutive semesters in progressive amounts of $1,000 in the first year, $2,000 in the second year, $3,000 in the third year and $4,000 in the fourth year.  Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Black River or Holland High School.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Permanent resident of the City of Holland for the last three years
• Racial or ethnic minority
• U.S. Citizenship
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a 3.0 GPA or ACT composite score of 20 or higher
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
• Financial need
Applicants will be selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Community Foundation of the Holland Zeeland Area.

Community Service Scholarship of the Community Foundation

The Community Service Scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to one male and one female student from each of the following schools: Black River, Holland High School, Holland Christian High School, West Ottawa High School, Zeeland East High School, and Zeeland West High School. Members of the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee support the school selection committees in the nomination process.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
• A record of community activities and leadership positions in extracurricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future

Anne E. Dirkse Memorial Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship established in memory of Anne Dirkse awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from either Holland High School or West Ottawa High School who demonstrates a passion for a nursing career.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Enrollment in a 2 or four year accredited college or university in Michigan
• Academic success as demonstrated by a 3.0 GPA or higher
• Leadership and service to the Holland/Zeeland community
• Financial need
• A passion for a career in nursing

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Community Foundation of the Holland Zeeland Area.

Jack and Thelma Leenhouts Scholarship

The Jack and Thelma Leenhouts Scholarship awards two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Holland High School who are enrolled in a four-year bachelor degree program in the arts or sciences.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic performances, as demonstrated by high school 3.0 GPA, rank in class and national test scores are considerations
• Applicants should demonstrate a high involvement in community and school activities
• Financial need is a consideration, but not an absolute requirement

Donald J. & Lileeth Brouwer Van Ark Scholarship

The Donald and Lileeth Brouwer Van Ark Scholarship awards three $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Holland High School who are enrolled in a four-year degree program in education/teaching.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic performance as demonstrated by a 2.7 GPA or higher
• Acceptance into an accredited four year college or university in the Education program
• Demonstration of hard work towards academic, maximizing abilities
• Financial need

Margaret VanVyven Music Scholarship

This memorial scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Holland High School who plans to enroll in a two or four year university leading to a career in music either as a teacher or as a performer.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Minimum high school GPA of 3.0
• Dedication and involvement in the high school music program
• Recommendation from the high school music department
• Intention to pursue a career in music, either as a teacher of instrumental or vocal music or as a performer of music
• Financial need

Ted and Yuki Yamaoka Scholarship

This scholarship established in memory of Ted and Yuki Yamaoka awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating Holland High School senior who intends to pursue a post-secondary education at Michigan State University.  Holland High School members of the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee support the school selection committee in the nomination process.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must be accepted and planning to enroll at Michigan State University for the upcoming fall semester.
- Academic achievement as measured by a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. 
- Strong record of community service.
- A caring attitude toward others.
