J. Russel and Julia Bouws Scholarship Fund

Applications Due on March 15

The J. Russel and Julia Bouws Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to college or college-bound students who are employed (or whose parents are employed) with Russ’ Restaurants (Holland, Muskegon, Grand Haven, and Grand Rapids).

Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a college or university within Michigan and:

  * Hold a high school GPA of 2.0 or better
  * Exhibit a record of extra curricular community interests and activities
  * Demonstrate financial need

Applications for this scholarship are available through the Russ’ Restaurants’ Administrative Offices, 390 E. 8th Street, Holland MI 49423.

Holland Awning Group Employee Scholarship

Applications Due on April 1st

This scholarship was established by Holland Awning Group in 2012 to assist children of Holland Awning Group employees in pursuing a post-secondary education.  Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded this year. 

Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
1. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or current college students who are dependents of Holland Awning Group employees. 
2. Applicants must be accepted to or currently attending a two or four-year accredited college, university or vocational/technical school. 
3. Academic achievement as demonstrated by high school or college GPA, class rank, and ACT scores. 
4. A strong record of community involvement.

Karen and Larry Mulder Scholarship Fund

Applications Due on April 1st

The Karen and Larry Mulder Scholarship Fund was established in early 2009 coinciding with Larry Mulder’s retirement from ODL, Inc. (a Mulder family business) after 45 years of service. Karen and Larry wanted to assist in providing educational opportunities for the children of ODL’s employees. The awards are intended to assist children of eligible employees of ODL, Inc who are well-qualified students who will be pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree.

Fund Administration

The Karen and Larry Mulder Scholarship Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area. All applications are reviewed and selected by their appointed scholarship committee.

Scholarship Awards

The scholarship awards may be used toward tuition, books, required expenses and fees. The number of scholarships awarded each year is based on funding availability. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of up to $7,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years while working towards an under-graduate degree and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

Eligibility

1. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen accepted to an accredited college/university in the U.S.
2. Award recipients must be under the age of 25 and meet the criteria to qualify for dependent benefits through an ODL eligible employee.
3. An ODL eligible employee is an individual who is currently employed by ODL at a U.S. facility and has held a regular job with the company for one year, or more, and completed 1,500 hours in the previous 12 months. Children of officers and directors of the company are not eligible.
4. Scholarships are limited to students pursuing an undergraduate degree.
5. Applicant must have an acceptance letter from the college they plan to attend.
6. Applicants, who are high school seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or applicants who are current college students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 are encouraged to apply for scholarship funding.

Careerline Tech Center Scholarship

The Careerline Tech Center scholarship awards scholarships to students who have excelled in their coursework at the tech center and are interested in pursuing a higher education.

Applications are available through the Careerline Tech Center.

Jessie F. Dalman Scholarship

The Jessie F. Dalman Scholarship Fund was developed to honor young women who have achieved academic excellence and an outstanding record of leadership and community involvement.  Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to female applicants from any of the following schools: Black River, Holland Public Schools, Holland Christian High School, Hudsonville High School, Hudsonville Unity High School, West Ottawa High Schools, and Zeeland High Schools.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Applicants must be planning to attend a two or four-year accredited college or university
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0, class rank, and ACT scores
• A record of service in community activities in addition to high school activities
• Exceptional performance in leadership positions in student and class government and extracurricular activities

Samuel Meengs Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in memory of Samuel Meengs, a Hope College student and an active member of the Holland and Zeeland community. This scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Black River, Calvary Schools of Holland, Holland Christian High School, Holland High School, West Ottawa High Schools, or Zeeland High Schools.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of at least 27;
• A record of community service and extra curricular activities,
• Involvement in high school sports, music, or the arts and,
• The strength of a student’s course load
• Acceptance and intention to attend Hope College.

The University of Michigan Club of Holland Scholarship

Applications Due on March 15

The University of Michigan Club of Holland scholarship awards $1,000 scholarships to students planning to attend the University of Michigan.  Applications are accepted from Black River, Calvary Schools of Holland, Fennville High School, Hamilton High School, Holland High School, Holland Christian High School, Saugatuck High School, West Ottawa High Schools and Zeeland High Schools. 

Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• Acceptance at the University of Michigan for the upcoming fall semester
• High achievement on GPA, ACT and SAT
• Leadership and service to area high school
• Essay: Please explain why University of Michigan is your first choice and your educational goals and intended major

Ted Vanden Bosch Scholarship Fund for Children of Firefighters, Police Officers, & Rescue Personnel

The Vanden Bosch Scholarship awards scholarships to graduating seniors from the greater Holland/Zeeland Area, including Hamilton High School.  Applicants must be children of firefighters, police officers, or rescue personnel.
Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• High academic performance as demonstrated by a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
• Record of community service in addition to leadership positions in extra curricular activities
• Financial need
• Special consideration will be given to candidates interested in pursuing a degree in the sciences

Wagner Catholic Scholarship

The Wagner Catholic Scholarship is available to graduating seniors who are members of a local Roman Catholic Church (Our Lady of the Lake or St. Francis de Sales) and reside in the service area of The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.  This scholarship is potentially renewable provided that the fund has sufficient earnings for up to $10,000 over a four year period for students pursuing a degree from a Roman Catholic College or University.  Consideration may be given to a student considering Hope College or University of Michigan.

Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• High academic performance as demonstrated by high school G.P.A., rank in class and national test scores
• Financial need is a consideration, but not an absolute requirement
• Exceptional leadership in high school activities within the limits of employment requirements
• High service record in church and community
• Show promise of outstanding leadership and scholarship

Selection will be determined by a scholarship selection committee composed of representatives from education and each of the local parishes.

Roger and Louise Brinks Elementary Education Scholarship

This memorial scholarship awards a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Hamilton High School interested in pursuing a degree in elementary education.

Scholarship applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
• High academic performance as demonstrated by high school minimum 3.0 GPA
• Record of community activities in addition to exceptional performance in school and leadership positions in extra curricular activities with a promise of outstanding leadership in the future
• Applicants must be accepted to an accredited higher educational institution majoring in elementary education
• Financial need
• Scholarship selection is determined by the high school guidance office with the administration
