Recently Awarded Grants
The following grants were awarded in the third and final competitive grant cycle of 2012, as they strategically use resources to enhance the quality of life for Holland/Zeeland citizens.
Arts and Culture
- Holland Area Arts Council - $6,000 for Art for All, an art program for developmentally disabled adults
- Zeeland Historical Society - $7,000 for developing New Groningen Schoolhouse programming
Community Foundation Board Chair Ann Query and Director of Grantmaking Elizabeth Kidd present Dorothy Voss, Suzy Frederick, and Debbie Albert of Zeeland Historical Society with a $7,000 grant for developing program curriculum for New Groningen Schoolhouse.
Community and Economic Development
- Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance - $3,500 for Institutes for Healing Racism courses for Holland Public Schools staff
Health
- Holland Community Hospital - $10,000 for the School Nursing Program, which provides quality health care services to over 8,000 students during the school day in Holland and West Ottawa Schools
Housing
- Community Action House on behalf of the Ottawa Area Housing Coalition - $4,500 for Continuum of Care Coordination among housing service providers in Ottawa County
Human Services
- 20th Judicial Circuit Court - County of Ottawa - $10,000 for the Legal Self Help Center Holland Office
- American Red Cross - $5,000 for Disaster Relief in Ottawa County
- Bethany Christian Services - $5,000 for Post Adoption Case Management
- Community Action House - $20,000 for the Community Kitchen
- Harbor Humane Society - $5,000 for Shelter Repairs and Low Income Vaccine Clinic
- Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance - $6,400 for Talking to Kids about Race toolkits for parents and childcare providers
- Pathways - $10,000 for the Enhanced Accessibility Project for quality counseling, case management and supportive services
- Winning at Home Family Life Ministries - $5,000 for Counseling Services Scholarships
Youth
- Barnabas Ministries - $3,000 for the Family Court Girls Group which provides opportunities for young women to develop relationships, life skills, mentoring, and experiential learning
- Friends of CASA, Ottawa County - $7,000 for the Lullaby Fund to support children's basic needs and other activities vital to their success and self-esteem
- Holland Chapter I-015, Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America - $1,500 for school recognition for the WestShore Talent Search
- Holland Rotary Charities - $5,000 for the launch of the Rotary Interact service club for high school students
- Quincy Elementary School - Zeeland Public Schools - $4,000 for the Just Right Library which provides young readers with books to take home to read that are “just right” for their personal reading level
- Renew Therapeutic Riding Center - $7,200 for Special Education Class therapeutic riding lessons
- Saugatuck Center for the Arts - $2,750 for Children’s Festival Programming
Youth Advisory Committee members Lizzie Hoeksema, Nick Zomer, Tabahn Afrik, and Amber Hoeve present Quincy Elementary Reading Teacher Teresa Jarzembowski, Principal Ellen Kontowicz, and three of their rockstar readers with a $4,000 grant for the Just Right Library. The program provides young readers with books to take home to read that are not too hard, not too easy, but just right for their personal reading level.
