“Windmill Island Gardens Future Fund” Established at CFHZ

The City of Holland recently established the Windmill Island Gardens Future Fund just as they unveiled their fresh vision for its future and their campaign for Windmill Island Gardens. Turning this vision into a reality will require a substantial community investment, and the Community Foundation is honored to steward the funds that will be raised for repairing and restoring our Dutch artifacts and increasing pedestrian accessibility. 2013 Scholarship Application Deadlines Approaching for Area Students

2013 scholarship applications are now available on the scholarships page of our website. Completed scholarship applications must be submitted through the student’s high school guidance office. Most applications are due from the guidance office to CFHZ by April 1st, with a few scholarships being due to the Foundation on March 15th. Students should check with their school’s guidance office to confirm their school’s internal deadline for submitting the applications. CFHZ awards over $400,000 in scholarships each year to more than 190 students to pursue post-secondary education opportunities.

Mike Goorhouse Receives Gift Planning and Fund Raising Management Certifications

Mike Goorhouse, Vice President of Donor Development at the Community Foundation, recently achieved two certifications which will help the Community Foundation better assist charitably minded individuals looking to make an impact on the lakeshore community. Mike has been designated a Certified Gift Planning Associate by Crescendo’s Gift College and obtained a Certificate in Fund Raising Management through the Indiana University School of Philanthropy. Congratulations, Mike!

IRA Charitable Rollover Provision Extended

The Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) permitted individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income. While this initial provision expired on December 31, 2007, it has been extended several times. On January 2, 2013, President Obama signed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (H.R. 8) into law, extending the provision until December 31, 2013.
